Brian "Fox" Ellis: A miniCAST Favorite!
Whether he is building Black-crowned Night Heron nests in urban environments to recreate rookeries for an endangered bird, or using his smart phone to listen to the inaudible calls of bats to monitor the variety of species that pass over his home during fall migration, Brian “Fox” Ellis is a science writer who has followed his curiosity into dozens of field ecology projects. After 40 years as a freelance writer, storyteller, and environmental activist, he recently accepted his first regular job as the Director of Membership and Outreach for the Illinois Audubon Society where he edits their magazine, manages social media & citizen science projects, coordinates field trips, participates in ecological restoration, and funds avian research.
He is the author of 32 books, hundreds of articles, and recently produced, wrote and narrated 100 hours of local PBS television in two science related series to create virtual programming helping teachers leap the digital divide for rural and urban schools.
